The British are coming!! the British are coming!! Paul Revere’s ride began last night in Boston to warn all of those along his way that the British were on their way. His historic ride brought him through Lexington and finally Concord. My ride was less traumatic than our beloved Paul Revere’s but some might think that getting up in the middle of the night causes PTSD…so…
This morning, to honor Paul, I got up at 3AM to make the long drive from Cape Cod to Concord to experience the 250 year celebration of the American Revolution. The first shots were fired at 5:45 AM, just missing that live view by minutes, we parked our car on a farm, the morning was quiet and peaceful and as we walked to our shuttle, you could hear the canons in the distance followed by gun fire. We had very little time to make it to the Minute Man National Historic Park to see the shots fired there at sunrise. But we did make that. The day began with all 5 branches of military, standing to salute our red, white and blue as the national Anthem was sung so beautifully as the sun rose and the cannons blasted to start the ceremonial day. We walked and then hopped onto a trolly cart that took us downtown Concord. We were able to eat breakfast right where the parade passed and had front row seats to see all the infantry walk by. Our day ended with the 21 Cannon salute and a speech from the Governor of Massachusetts…but the days events went on all day and into the evening as block parties were beginning to be set up around noon. If you ever have the chance to experience the April 19th American Revolution Celebrations in Boston, Lexington, and Concord…I highly recommend thoughtful planning to ensure a smooth experience!
