Why arriving early is not always a good idea.

Why arriving early is not always a good idea.

From the Innkeepers Log….

We have hundreds of requests for travelers who want to arrive early to kick off their vacation as soon as possible. If you plan on trying this, make sure to check with your Innkeeper to ensure that an early check-in is available. Here is a little story on why…

We often host a batchlorette getaway, or bridal shower throughout the year. And this one group’s story I will share was quite a group. The Maid of Honor had everything planned perfectly, lots of jokes for the bride, party games, tours of the Cape, biking down the ShinningSea Bikeway as a group…really awesome group and we loved having them.

After they checked out, our clean up was a little more than usual but that was to be expected. What was not expected was a family trying to check-in early, in the rooms the bridal party has just been in…around 11:00 AM…the bridal party literally had just left. Streamers and bowls of candy, food…were all still out and we were cleaning.

What I did not catch immediately was a giant bowl of penis shaped lolly pops that had been left behind on their refreshment table…(keep in mind it is 11:00 AM and we are literally cleaning) …and the next check in arrived with little girl in hand…AND darling little girl runs over to the colorful candy bowl and helps herself to the xxx-rated lolly pops…

THE PENIS LOLLY POPS!

Well mom was REALLY REALLY upset and she slapped the Lolly POP out of her daughter’s mouth and the girl was crying instantly.

I tried to keep my composure and not laugh because the poor child only wanted a sweet treat and from a distance it just looked like a candy carousel table.

We told the family we would get them in as soon as possible, and that check in time was 3:30, and the prior event had just checked out.

I courteously, checked in their luggage, and tried to stream line their check in so their 3:30 arrival would be effortless…

But long story short, arriving early may not be available and there is no way to ensure early check-in until the day of arrival because we never know what surprises guests will leave behind for us to tidy up.
